Written Word

What good are they?
They, with their rules,
innumerable and structured,
vexing young and old
with their difficulty.
The good they do,
shining and boundless
often is unseen.
They are tools with which some,
flawed,
perfect,
lauded and disgraced
and simple let be known
their truest being.
Hate
Adoration
Pettiness
Loyalty
The color and tone of a soul
be it luminescent or muddied
of ebony or ruby or gold
is carried on their tireless back.
Proper friendship,
a partnership of ink and sheet,
can change a life.
Meaning bleeds through
the stock board backing
into the open air
to the ears of all.
Were we without they,
as once we were,
nations would fall and savagery return.
To use them truely,
and treat them justly,
is reason unto itself.
